Timaru urban bus patronage not growing

Tranzwatching in Timaru, New Zealand

Earthquake damage to workplaces and their scattered relocation; closure of much the central business district; and Metro response policies have significantly reduced bus patronage in Christchurch.

Timaru, the province of Canterbury's second biggest settlement, (27,000) has escaped any significant damage and welcomed several thousand earthquake "refugees". It does not appear to have effected bus patronage. Environment Canterbury (Regional Council) Timaru office says Metro's urban services inTimaru recorded virtually a no change year, down 0.44% at just under 179,000 passenger trips p.a.
